England and British Lions rugby stars Matt Dawson and Martin Corry will be visiting the BVI this week as the guest speakers at the BVI Rugby Club Annual Dinner to be held at Fort Burt on Saturday 15th June. The BVI Rugby Club Annual Dinner has, arguably, become one of THE premier social events in the BVI social calendar and Saturday’s event promises to be one of the best.
Both players have played the game at the highest level and will regale the dinner guests with an insight on the pressures, and pleasures, of sport at the highest level.
Matt Dawson is a former captain of the England team and is renowned as a supremely effective scrum half. He made his debut against Samoa in 1995 and to date has played 44 times for England, the latest game being against Italy in April of this year, and has scored 82 points.
Matt achieved immortality with a notoriously cheeky dummy and try during the First Test Match against South Africa in 1997 which turned the game in the Lion’s favour.
Martin Corry, a versatile back row player, has come up through the ranks of English rugby – Under 18, England Students and England A. He made his England debut against Argentina in 1997. Martin was a late inclusion in the 2001 British Lions squad that toured Australia.
Martin has played 25 times for England, the latest being against Wales in March of this year, and scored 2 tries. Many observers feel that Martin would have played more times for England were it not for the impressive form of England No. 8 Lawrence Dallaglio at the same time.
The BVI Rugby Club is proud to be able to invite such high caliber sportsmen to the BVI and during their visit both players will host training sessions and workshops.
